1940s hat with ostrich - Gem。What a beautiful black felt tilt hat from the fabulous forties! The hat is made of black felt which has been shaped into one rounded piece, plus a smaller round shape at the top area. A beautiful orange and gold feather spray is attached to the top back of the hat and the ends are covered in orange grosgrain plus a small bow. To help keep the hat in a tilted position there is an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills. There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. Please keep in mind that you are buying a vintage hat, not new nor perfect! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
