UNIQUE 1940s\' SALMON COLOR FABRIC TILT HAT WITH RUFFLES & BLACK VEILING ON BRIM
download picture
description
This is a gorgeous salmon colored nubby fabric tilt hat from the fabulous 1940s\'! The solid structure covered in this beautiful fabric consists of a short, flat top crown surrounded by a short brim. The inside of the hat is not lined, and allows one to see the mesh material it is made of. On top of the brim there are bands of material & black veiling gathered around the front only. A black grosgrain band surrounds the back of the crown. A band of black grosgrain is attached to keep the hat in a tilted position. Gorgeous!
Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
Label: NEW YORK CREATION
The New York Creation label was created by famous designers of the era who wanted to remain anonymous & wanted to support the New York Creation label & keep it competitive with French styles. The label is small, white & blue. Hats bearing this label are highly sought after.
Please keep in mind that you are buying a vintage hat, not new nor perfect! This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, furs, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age. Mannequin not for sale.
